If you are a non-European national and you are planning to settle in the UK as the spouse like husband, wife or civil partner of any British citizen, or other person settled in the UK, you will need to prove that you have a A1 level of English language knowledge that you can easily communicate in UK. This page describes the requirements for approved English Language tests for partners. One is the Life in the UK test certificate and the other is a B1 English test (GESE Grade 5) best taken from Trinity College London as it is the easiest. The exam is only 10 minutes and usually most people pass it unless the student’s English is absolutely zero.
What this means is that you will need to speak and understand English language to a reasonable level and then you can pass the test.
