The Life in the UK test is one of two tests you will need to complete to satisfy your KOLL requirements for UK settlement or British citizenship.
The test itself was introduced to the UK in November 2005 which aimed to test foreign national’s knowledge of English language and culture.
This test is to help migrants integrate into UK society easier with general knowledge of UK heritage, culture and history.
It can be difficult to pass this test and we will outline the main ways to prepare for the test.

Over half a million people have taken the Life in the UK test since 2005. Nearly one in three people fail the test.
Over 900,000+ applicants who took the test, roughly 260,000+ failed which meant the success percentage of those taking the test is around 70%.
Now you must be thinking… why do people fail this test?
The major reason for failing this test is a lack of preparation.
If you go into the test without reading the official handbook (which is included in our online training material) then you will have a pretty poor chance of passing.
That being said if you do not try any practice questions then you will have a tough time answering the real test when you get to it.

NOTE: If you take the test and fail you will need to pay for the exam again (£50). Also you will need to wait a week before you can retake the test.

One is the Life in the UK test certificate and the other is a B1 English test (GESE Grade 5) best taken from Trinity College London as it is the easiest. The exam is only 10 minutes and usually most people pass it unless the student’s English is absolutely zero.
What this means is that you will need to speak and understand English language to a reasonable level and then you can pass the test.
